Haiti Earthquake People and Politics

Haiti Earthquake, People, and Politics

This evening I have been watching news coverage about the Haiti earthquake. It saddens my heart. I cannot imagine what it would be like to be one of these people caught in this tragedy. The moment I heard about the Haiti earthquake, I just thought that these poor people in this area.

As privileged human beings, living in a land of plenty, it is normal for people to put up defenses and desensitize ourselves, and think to ourselves that somehow we deserve to not have these kind of horrible problems that these people have. It seems to some people manly or tough or smart to not humble ourselves and realize that we are just plain lucky to not be in this rotten situation that the people in Haiti are in now, as a result of this earthquake. But it is okay to let your feelings show and let people around you know that when others are hurting this much, that it hurts all of us. We are all apart of the human community.

It is distasteful and sad to see that some persons and organizations who are always pushing a certain political point of view or another on everything, would even think about using the Haiti earthquake as a way to further their politics. The political pundits should be mature enough and human enough to put down the boxing gloves and use their platforms to encourage their audiences to do something productive to help out the people of Haiti after this terrible earthquake disaster.

As I see the people who are hurting in Haiti tonight, I think to myself that it could be me.
