Las Vegas Strip Loses Money Because Of Marathon

It is true that some media companies made some money from advertiser dollars on an early Sunday morning, which is a time that the local television stations usually have nothing going on, so I understand why they promote it as a wonderful thing for Las Vegas. However, the truth is that shutting down the place in Nevada that makes money to pay all the taxes for the residents in Nevada, and doing it on the busiest money-making night of the week, is not good business. A few of the Starbucks stores had a good morning, but for most businesses on the Las Vegas strip, they were hurt by being barracked and blocked and strangled. 

I heard an announcer on TV say that it was so fantastic for Las Vegas that there were 27,000 runners on the Las Vegas, and that what is a record for the amount of people on the strip, but anyone who has been in Las Vegas for New Year's Eve, and during most weekends, there are hundreds of thousands of tourists staying in the 140,000 rooms in Las Vegas. Trying to make this sound like good business seems like a huge farce to me.

"Runners will be taking over some of the area's busiest streets — including the entire Strip for much of Sunday — for the Rock ‘n’ Roll Las Vegas Marathon and Half Marathon. More than 25,000 people are expected to participate in the race, which will also shut down some public bus routes."

"LAS VEGAS — Getting around southern Nevada will take some planning ahead for a lot of drivers this weekend...Drivers need to be aware of more than two dozen closures during the event, with the majority of delays around the resort corridor...The earliest closure begins at 3 a.m. and several last until Sunday afternoon. Some freeway ramps will also be closed for the event..."
